American Express expands expense management offering with Center acquisition
American Express (Amex) has agreed to acquire US-based expense management software provider Center. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Amex signs deal to acquire Center for undisclosed sum
Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, Center offers an integrated corporate card, expense management, and travel solution. Its tools help companies maintain compliance with internal spending policies while streamlining expense reviews and audits.
Amex intends to combine its corporate and small business cards with Center’s software to create an expense management platform that “delivers more value across the commercial card payments process”, offering premium card choices, rewards, and automated accounting and reconciliation, according to an Amex statement.
The acquisition is expected to close “within the second quarter of 2025”, pending customary conditions, and follows Amex’s October 2024 agreement to purchase UBS’s 50% stake in Swisscard AECS, giving Amex full ownership of the Swiss credit card provider, where it previously held a 50% stake.
