The incoming CEO takes the reigns from Bevis Watts, whose departure from the role after five years was announced in October.
Clayton served as COO at Unity Trust Bank before joining Triodos Bank UK at the beginning of last year. He previously spent 23 years at HSBC, ultimately rising to the position of head of premier distribution.
His latest appointment remains subject to regulatory approval, and is anticipated to commence “in early summer”.
Commenting on the appointment, Gary Page, chair of Triodos Bank UK, says: “It was crucial for us to find a new CEO with the right values and passion for ethical and sustainable banking, as well as a strong understanding of our customers and a rapidly changing banking landscape.”
Founded in 1980, Triodos Bank operates across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and the UK, with a commitment to promoting “responsible and transparent banking” as a co-founder of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV).
Triodos Bank UK, launched in 1995 and headquartered in Bristol, is a certified B Corporation. With over 300 employees and a balance sheet of around £2 billion, it offers personal current and savings accounts, investment products, and sustainable finance for businesses.
