BNP Paribas taps Oracle for database management upgrade
BNP Paribas is set to enhance its on-premises database management processes through a new integration with Oracle, supporting its ongoing cloud strategy.

The Paris-headquartered banking group has opted for the Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer solution to power this enhancement.
The hybrid cloud offering will allow BNP Paribas to run the Oracle Exadata database platform in its own on-premises data centres and cloud systems.
This combination will provide access to the platform’s automation features, including advanced encryption, real-time monitoring, automatic failover and process optimisation.
In a statement, the group says this approach will “reduce latency between applications and data, improving operational efficiency and overall performance while simplifying obsolescence management”.
BNP Paribas has used the US-based vendor’s technology to manage part of its on-premises databases for over 20 years, and was previously also named as a European anchor client for IBM’s Financial Services Cloud platform in 2020.
“Our integration of Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer fully aligns with BNP Paribas’ cloud strategy,” comments CIO Bernard Gavgani, explaining that this strategy consists of “deploying the full potential of these technologies in a secure framework”.
In an effort to boost data security, the group has notably not placed any client data, or production environments containing sensitive data, onto the public cloud.
