Five steps, five minutes, €5 – KBC launches new mobile app for current accounts
The bank says this is “completely unique to the Irish market” and the app’s official launch follows months of development and testing with consumers. The app is available for both Apple and Android devices, and works in five steps: download, activation code, photo of driving licence, selfie, and confirmation. KBC is also giving €5 to every new current account opened via the app that will be available to spend immediately.
According to KBC, this is the latest in a series of product developments from its Innovation Hub in Dublin, where digital solutions are being created and tested for customers in Ireland and for roll-out across other KBC markets in Central Europe. The hub is part of KBC Group’s €1.5 billion investment in digital transformation.
KBC Bank Ireland’s director of innovation, Eddie Dillon, says the app “removes the perceived hassle, paperwork and time involved in opening a new bank account” and it “co-designed this new capability with Irish consumers”.
A feature of the app is an instant digital debit card that is sent to a customer’s phone the minute the account is opened. It means customers don’t have to wait for a physical debit card to arrive before their account can be used. KBC says it also prompts the addition of a debit card instantly to a digital wallet.
