Wirecard Launches Prepaid—and Supervised—Mobile Payments for Teens
Wirecard AG and Orange have launched a parent-supervised, prepaid mobile payment service for teenagers called Orange Cash Jeune.
Parents go online to create an account for their children who are younger than 18, signing up via the Web interface of Orange Cash before the app is installed on their children’s smartphones. Parents can then control or oversee the transactions and purchases. The launch comes as prepaid products for teens continue to struggle to gain traction in the United States.
Germany-based Wirecard processes the transactions and handles the technology back-end. The issuing and payment processing of the digital prepaid card is also handled by Wirecard.
“Especially for the younger generation, smartphones play a major role in their everyday life,” said Susanne Steidl, executive vice president, issuing services, at Wirecard. “With this solution, teens have their finances firmly in hand at any time.”
