FIS Launches Mobile Payments Platform for Gas Stations
A new mobile payments platform from FIS aims to make shopping easier for consumers at gas stations and convenience stores.
Called BuyWay, the technology “unites all points of contact within a transaction to deliver seamless, secure, personalized shopping experiences at thousands of gas stations and convenience stores across the nation,” FIS said this week. “Future installations will extend mobile payments to multiple market segments, including parking garages, restaurants and unattended kiosks.”
BuyWay connects apps on a customer’s digital device or car with a merchant’s point-of-sale system, which save retailers from having to buy new payment terminals. BuyWay can be integrated into existing loyalty programs and will also help merchants accept Chase Pay, FIS said. Chase Pay earlier this year announced a multi-year acceptance agreement with Phillips 66 that also will boost the fuel retailer’s mobile payments and loyalty integration.
“Digitally empowered consumers are demanding the future of payments today,” said Bruce Lowthers, EVP, FIS Global Retail Payments. “FIS BuyWay offers personalized, hassle-free shopping experiences that position merchants and service providers on the leading edge of payments, motivating and incentivizing consumers to return over and over.”
FIS won a 2016 Pay Awards for Outstanding Rewards Program for its ScoreCard Rewards, which enables customers to earn rewards for prepaid transactions, including at gas pumps. Earlier this year, Paybefore interviewed James Hutchison of FIS Global about the future of loyalty programs; you can see the interview here.
